Partnering with Deloitte at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2023

From November 7–9, 2023, The Carbon Games had the opportunity to participate in the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) in Barcelona, one of the world’s leading events dedicated to the future of cities. This year’s edition brought together more than 25,000 attendees, over 1,100 exhibitors, and hundreds of speakers, all focused on advancing innovation, sustainability, and equity in urban environments.

We were honored to be featured as part of Deloitte’s Smart City showcase, where they presented a selection of forward-looking initiatives and the startups they are supporting across Europe. At their booth, we had the opportunity to present and demonstrate our Event Carpooling solution, a tool designed to reduce emissions and traffic congestion during large-scale events by encouraging shared, data-driven mobility.

Demonstrating Climate-Conscious Mobility

The Event Carpooling platform allows event attendees to coordinate shared transport in a seamless and user-friendly way. By integrating behavioral nudges, route optimization, and incentive mechanisms, it not only improves user convenience but also helps cities and organizers reduce the environmental footprint of their events.

Throughout the three days at the expo, visitors to the Deloitte booth had the chance to explore how the solution works in practice and how it supports climate goals, public engagement, and smart mobility planning. The feedback and interest we received from municipalities, mobility providers, and fellow innovators affirmed the growing demand for low-barrier, scalable tools that contribute to sustainable urban living.

Insights from Across the Globe

Beyond our own showcase, SCEWC 2023 offered a rich opportunity to connect with city leaders, technologists, and researchers from around the world. We explored dozens of smart city solutions focused on urban resilience, data transparency, circular economy models, and citizen engagement.

One of the standout moments was hearing from Erion Veliaj, Mayor of Tirana, who shared how the Albanian capital has rapidly transformed its public spaces, mobility networks, and digital services in recent years. As an Albanian-led team that works closely in urban planning, it was both inspiring and deeply meaningful to see Tirana’s progress highlighted on such a prominent international stage.

Strengthening Our Vision

Being part of Smart City Expo 2023 reinforced our commitment to building practical, impactful tools that cities and communities can actually use. Events like this are a reminder that real transformation happens through collaboration—between startups, cities, institutions, and citizens.

We extend our sincere thanks to Deloitte for the invitation and support, and to Fira Barcelona for hosting this dynamic and globally relevant event. We're excited to build on the energy and connections sparked during the expo as we continue developing solutions that help cities move smarter and more sustainably.
