Cidade do Zero 2023: Driving Sustainable Urban Futures

In October 2023, The Carbon Games was invited to participate in Cidade do Zero, a leading public-facing event in Lisbon dedicated to promoting sustainable and circular cities. Held from 7–8 October 2023 at the Centro Cultural de Belém, the event brought together innovators, startups, and organizations working across sectors to reimagine urban life with zero emissions at its core.

The event featured immersive exhibitions, educational activities, and curated panel discussions that tackled some of the most pressing issues in sustainability—from food systems and fashion to mobility and digital solutions.

Panel Discussion: Transparency and Traceability in a Climate-Impacted World

As part of the event's conference program, The Carbon Games was invited to join a roundtable panel on the theme "Transparency and Traceability in a World Confronting the Climate Crisis." The discussion explored how businesses can use data and digital tools to better quantify environmental challenges and communicate impact with clarity and accountability.

Our contribution focused on how The Carbon Games platform, through projects like our Corporate Carpooling and Event Carpooling solutions, are designed to bring data transparency and spatial context to urban and mobility-related decision-making. 

The panel was moderated by Ana Carreira, a respected voice in Portuguese media and sustainability advocacy. Fellow panelists represented diverse domains, including sustainable packaging (Zeroo) and eco-conscious textiles (Be@t), highlighting how transparency plays a cross-cutting role across industries.

Aligning with the Cidade do Zero Vision

Cidade do Zero positioned itself not just as an event, but as a living lab for regenerative city-making, emphasizing education, traceability, and citizen empowerment. The open, community-focused format allowed for direct exchange with the public—an important opportunity for us to understand how everyday people interact with and perceive urban data and sustainability goals.

Participating in this event reinforced The Carbon Games' commitment to designing tools that are not only powerful for decision-makers but also accessible and engaging for communities, aligning with the broader mission of inclusive climate action.

Cidade do Zero 2023 was a meaningful milestone for The Carbon Games, offering a platform to contribute to the conversation around data, equity, and systemic change in cities.
